Lonnie Fuller suggests, by email on 3/16/11, that our Gentleman might be George Chandler. He reports "I compared the pictures on Google images with the ones on the 'Who is that?' page and it looks like a match."

Unfortunately, our pictures of the Gentleman aren't very good, and the pictures I found on the web were older, from before the Perry Mason era. The match was pretty good however. Here's a Lineup for comparison. So, what do you think?

from eBay from Episode #42 from Lassie

Left to right, from eBay, from episode #42, from Lassie episode #5.35, 3 May 1959.

The eBay listing said "1950s," but the picture looks more like "1930s" to me. The Lassie picture is a DVD vidcap from episode #5.35, 3 May 1959. I also saw George in a couple of episodes of Wagon Train from 1958 via Netflix streaming. He looked much the same as in Lassie.
